After the astonishing voter turnout in Central Kenya where Kumira Kumira campaigns yielded desirable fruits made UHURUTO government clinch power for the second term. People were even more satisfied after the disputed election was affirmed by the SCOK. This was influenced by the mouthwatering ‘hopes’ that people were promised during campaigns including clean water and job opportunities.

However, Muranga residents are now fed up with the consequences of Eastern Water Collector Tunnel. Although various leaders such as Raila Odinga raised alarm about the manner in which Jubilee government was implementing the project, UHURUTO forced their way and through the watchful eyes of Water CS. Dying Rivers

Barely two months, are the people of Muranga hungry. The taps have run dry. The rivers have reduced their water volume such that aquatic lives have completely been lost. Major rivers which used to drown locals every weekend are unable to drown even a drunkard since the water levels have deteriorated. Long water queues and water vehicles have become a new order of the day in Muranga.

The adverse effects of this tunnel have reached the neighboring counties. In Kirinyanya, Nyeri, Embu and parts Machakos, the weather is still very dry while other counties such as Kiambu and Tharakanithi are mitigating effects of floods due to heavy rains. As the locals are now saying ‘aya nigute!’ which loosely translate to ‘this is a loss’.
